Some consumer advocacy groups in Nigeria, have threatened to file a class-action law suit against the Nigerian Bottling Company if it is established that an infraction has been committed against consumers of two beverages it produces: namely Fanta and Sprite. The President and Founder of the Consumer Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria, Sola Salako, however, says that the first step would be to consult the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control to find out how it arrived at the maximum limits for benzoic and ascorbic acids to be used in producing soft drinks for consumption in the country. The lobby will also seek explanations on why the global standard was different from that applicable in the country.
